If you are interested in taking on this task, please email maelstrom2@distant-galaxy.com, stating your name, and that you would like to start this task. Maelstrom II production will then enter your name into the artist field above, the date in to the Start Date field, and change the Status to In Progress.
Time Constraint
Please note that in order to keep production moving forward, there is a time constraint on this task. Please email if you need more time. If we don't hear from you in two weeks, the task will be need to be re-assigned.

We will be using the qt movie file or the sequence of images, as an animated background for your maya camera image plane.
This will allow you to match-a-mate the cg body to the bg image in the camera.
Note: some versions of maya on some platforms allow you to use a qt movie file. Most situations, you need to convert them to a sequence of images.

Create a new Maya Project for this shot
  1. Launch maya
  2. File->Project->New...
  3. Change the name to maya/scenes/M2CD003.Match.[your initials].[mayaVersion].[workingNumber].ma

    e.g. M2CD003.Match.JL.m5.1.ma

  4. Make sure you save to Maya ASCII, not Binary.
  5. Click Use Defaults button at the bottom and Accept
  6. File->Project->Set->[Select above new project]

Left click on image to view quicktime movie.
Right Mouse Click Save Link Target As... to save quicktime movie file locall.
  1. Save quicktime movie file to your local computer as:  M2CD003Animatic.mov
  2. For windows and linux, you will need to convert the movie file to a sequence of iff or jpg frames.
  3. The file sequence path/naming convention is: maya/sourceimages/shotname.iff.<frameNumber>
  4. Modify each camera->Environment->imagePlane->image Name to point to your local copy of the movie or sequence of frames.
  5. camImageSeqExample.jpg
    Note: The above example is for a different shot, but the principle is the same.
  1. Turn on the Use Image Sequence button
  2. Try scrubbing your timeline. You should see the image in your 3d view animate.
  3. Rename one of the hdAsp1_78 cameras to

    hdAsp1_78shotCD003

  4. View through the hdAsp1_78shotCD003 camera.
  5. Set the frame range to the number of frames in the M2CD003Animatic.mov footage.

Match-a-mate G Suit Body to Actor
  1. Position the G Suit so the collar lines up with the neckline of the actor in the image sequence.
  2. Keyframe match-amate the CG body to actor Chuck Marra's performance in the animatic footage.
  3. Save out as M2CD003.Match.[your initials].[mayaVersion].[workingNumber].ma

    e.g. M2CD003.Match.JL.m5.1.ma

    Make sure you save to ascii format, not binary.
  4. Gzip your file to save on file size

  1. Email your gzipped file to:

  2. Email maelstrom2@distant-galaxy.com stating that you have sent the above file to the above address.
  3. Remember to send takes often. Don't spend too much time perfecting it!
