Production Studio Version 0.1 Web-based virtual production studio, allowing independent digital film makers to collaborate on projects from across the world. White Paper By Jeroen Lapré A distant-galaxy.com Open Source Project. 10th Oct, 2007 Inspiration Necessity being the mother of invention; the independent digital production of Arthur C. Clarke's Maelstrom II is evolving into a web-based virtual production. Description A web application / server that stores, organises, and distributes digital media production tasks and deliverables. Production staff and artists can log on to the server, and work on the digital production, from anywhere in the world with web access. Process The shooting script or screen play for the digital film is converted into digital story boards. These are then broken down into sequences, shots, and tasks. Any Live footage is uploaded as quicktime movie files, and attached to a shot / task. The tasks are uploaded to the production server, and there status is initally set to not started, and published as available tasks. Digital artists from across the world look for available tasks within their skill set. They select tasks they would like to work on, and assign themselves, and mark the task as in progress. When the artist has something to show, they upload the corresponding file, and mark it for review. The corresponding task supervisor reviews the task. If it meets their approval, they mark it as complete. The above processes are repreated until the rendering and compositing tasks produce the final shot. Meanwhile the director, editor, and film score composer can be working in a similar manner, in parrallel. All participants can observe the above toward the completion of the project. Related Technologies Java Film Ontology A model of digital film production, authored in OWL. By applying semantic web technology, the virtual production software can aquire a higher level understanding of digital film production. These concepts can be converted into intuitive code that perculates down to semi-automate the lower level tasks. References OpenCyc Concepts Wikipedia References |
