Genetic Ark with Binary
Primary Number Passive Beacon
The idea of launching genetic arks into space is an
old one.
In order for it to be discovered by an alien race, it needs to
broadcast it's presence.
However, Donna, my wife, pointed out even a nuclear-powered beacon will
run out of power in a matter of thousands of years.
Therefore, I propose a passive reflective beacon:
Spin the ark.
Cover the ark with a series of radio reflective and radio absorbing
squares.
You could also have optically reflective and absorbing squares
alongside the radio reflective/absorbing ones.
e.g. binary pattern representing the primary numbers.
So when an alien civilization with radio technology detects radio waves
reflected
off the ark in a binary primary number sequence modulation,
it will deduce that it is from an artifact, and not a natural source.
Those with optical telescopes could detect stars and/or planets
reflected in a corresponding modulation.

Build monolithic repositories of knowledge all over the world, in orbit
and on the Moon.
In the event of a catastrophic event, such as a large asteroid impact,
a super volcanic event, etc,
to assist survivors to bootstrap themselves back up to a technological
civilization asap.

Celestia Star Trek
Plugin
Donna suggested a plugin for Celestia, or an equally
cool 3D astronomy software package:
Allows you to see where and how fast the Starship Enterprise travelled
in each episode of the original Star Trek,
the tv series, Next Generation, etc.
